How a louvered roof works.
The roof is a set of interlocking aluminum louvers on a motorized drive. Open them fully and the patio is a pergola with the sky above it. Angle them and you get filtered shade that tracks the sun down toward the water. Close them and the louvers seal into a solid roof, draining rain into a gutter built into the beam.
The frame is extruded aluminum in a powder-coat finish, on the same kind of posts and footings as our solid covers, and it does not mind the salt air. Lighting, fans and heaters mount to the frame.

A motor turns the louvers from fully open to fully closed at the touch of a switch or remote. Open, you get sun and airflow; angled, filtered shade that follows the afternoon; closed, a solid roof that sheds a storm into the built-in gutter.
Because the weather changes by the hour here. A morning under the marine layer wants the louvers open; the same afternoon in September wants them angled; a January storm wants them shut. One structure does all three without a second cover or a shade sail.
Yes, a standard circuit for the motor. We run it during the build. Lighting, fans and heaters can be added to the frame.
Yes. Irvine, Yorba Linda, the newer tracts in Buena Park and most of the planned communities south of the 405 have an architectural committee, and each one wants roughly the same packet: a site plan, the color, and the manufacturer's spec sheet. We prepare it, submit it, and answer the committee's questions. It is the one part of the schedule we do not control, so we start it first.
